Hatton Claims 4 Banger Classic, Burke Dominates Sprints

POST FALLS, ID – September 25, 2005 – Otis Orchards driver Rich Hatton carried on his dominating performance from his 2005 season in the Road Runners during Wednesday Night Fever to capture the first ever Fall 4 Banger Classic at Stateline Speedway Saturday night. Hatton, the current Stateline Road Runner point leader, charged his way from the back of the back during the 50-lap main event to take the victory for the inaugural event. The race was caution free with only minor spins and contact. Steve Schovaers finished second after racing double duty in the Late Model 4’s; Russell Syverson was third followed by Lance McClellan. Idaho’s Robin Mathis took the A Dash, his second in a row. Jamie Allen of Post Falls won the B Dash and the B main grabbing the first transfer spot. Other strong finishers included western Washington’s Gordon Davies and Harrington’s Tyson Wilcox a Hornet driver based out of Ephrata Raceway Park. Local Road Runners wrap up their season this Wednesday.

Kevin Burck dominated the winged sprint cars 30-lap main event in lightning fast manner. Burck set fast time for the night, nearly lapping second place finisher Tony Berry and himself in the process. Don Kudrna and Henry Tupling won dashes. Wes Helgeson took the heat race as the sprint cars made their final appearance of the season. Kay Burland’s championship hopes in the Street Stocks went up in smoke in her final qualifying lap after setting fast time during qualifying. Burland’s motor woes allowed second place in points Andy Brown to capitalize, winning all three races for the class en route to the season championship.
Kevin McKeehan of Lewiston, Idaho won the Late Model 4 main event over Bob Winker and Brett SantaRosa. Winker won the B Dash along with Daniel Washam. Brad Carpenter, who led the main event until motor problems, won the A heat. John Jackson took the checkers in the B heat The wild, wacky, over the top action of Wednesday Night Fever resumes this Wednesday at 6pm with the season finale of the mid-week race series featuring Fever 4’s, Road Runners, plus the wild and crazy Bumper Cars. Adults are just $5.75; kids under the age of nine accompanied by adults are free.

Saturday night, Stateline Speedway concludes the 2005 motorsports season with a demolition derby and fireworks extravaganza. Gates Open at 5pm, general admission is $10 family passes are $25. Advance tickets are available at the Les Schwab Tire Center in Post Falls on Seltice Way and at the speedway’s ticket office on Wednesday night.
