Burck, Husk, Lasswell Winners at Saturday Finale |
| POST
FALLS, IDAHO – September 24, 2006 – Kevin Burck ended the 2006-racing
season as he did all season long, dominate, and win. Burck who became the
2006 champion after Saturday night’s races won his fifth straight Winged
Sprint car main event as the 2006 Saturday night racing season at
Stateline Speedway came to a close. Burck faced his toughest competition of the year since his loss to Canada’s Jeff Bird in the spring. Cars from Ephrata and WESCO joined the race making it the largest field of Winged Sprints of the year. Two cautions and two red flags in the first seven laps cut the starting field in half. Ron Turner brought out the first red flag with contact on the front stretch with his tires sheered loose. Rod Nelson set the grass on fire in turn two after contact with another car while running in the top five to bring out the second. Burck chased down Ephrata’s Amanda McDonald, who had one of the largest main event leads of the year, to pass her with 10-laps to go to claim the win. McDonald finished second, Doug McLees third. Mike Tupling and Mike Phelps rounded out the top five. Kevin Heer and Glen Walker won dashes. Rod Nelson and Wes Helgeson won the heats. Brian Husk finished the 2006 Hobby car season in victory lane. Husk, also the winner of the Dash, seized the lead from fast time setter Matt Tarr after Tarr’s engine let go. Husk went unchallenged to win the 25-lap event. Monty Collison finished second followed by Ned Pennington. Husk’s win was not enough to capture the championship, falling only 19 points short from Rob Ballard in the 2006 championship standings. Ballard’s night ended in the same fashion as it did the week before, on the back of a wrecker. Ballard along with John Ward were involved in an incident exiting turn two of the opening laps. Both walked away from the wreck but were unable to complete the reaming of the event. Despite the finish, Ballard still won the championship followed by Husk, Ned Pennington, and Monty Collision in the standings. Randy Lasswell captured the win in the 25-lap Street Stock main event over heat winner Nathan Fleury to capture the 2006 championship title for the Street Stocks. Darryl Carillio finished third Charlie Fiorino fourth in the event. Aaron Nevers placed ninth after two crashes in the opening laps. The wild, wacky, unpredictable action of Wednesday Night Fever concludes Wednesday night at 6pm with Fever 4’s, Road Runners, plus the cars and superstars of the Bump to Pass division competing in the season finale. Two championship battles highlight the night. A two car duel between Craig O’Neal and Coeur d’ Alene’s Chuck Davidson for the Road Runners championship and KC Garber’s lead over defending champion Mel Auckerman and cousin Colton Garber for the 2006 Fever 4 title take center stage. Adults are just $5.75; kids under the age of nine accompanied by adults are free.
